Birth from The Earth
Greetings! Thanks for taking the time to visit the website. Let me tell you a little about myself and my vision.
My name is Nubia Earth Martin and I am the proud mother of five children; Two daughter and three sons. While pregnant with our third child, my husband and I decided we wanted a home birth experience with a midwife, easy enough right? Well, our search for a midwife whose beliefs and philosophies mirrored our own took us on a journey from Yonkers, New York to Teaneck, New Jersey!
Throughout my pregnancy I was amazed (and disappointed) at the lack of resources available in my immediate area. It was in my 6th month of pregnancy that I decided to take a course to become a Child Birth Educator. I was enlightened by all of the information I attained and decided that I wanted to make childbirth education a top priority for expectant women and their partners. Knowledge is power and because pregnancy is such a wonderful time of celebration we should be able to have the facts we need to truly embrace the entire experience.
It is my goal to make childbirth education as important as prenatal care and as natural as nature.
Thus, Birth from The Earth was born!
I have worked hard on creating informative, engaging and interactive child birth education classes because I believe, when you know your body, you know your choices and you have a voice!
In the Spring of 2009 I completed a course to become a Certified Birth Doula! In addition to offering childbirth classes I am qualified to attend to you during your pregnancy, during your labor and delivery and immediately postpartum.
As of May 2011 I am now Certified as a Postpartum Doula, available to help out in your home in the first few weeks after your baby is born.
I worked for The Health Department of Westchester County at the WIC office in Yonkers, NY as a breastfeeding counselor from June 2010 to October 2012.
In June of 2013 I took the Certified Lactation Counselor(CLC) training through the Healthy Children Project organization and learned many of the up-to-date techniques to get breastfeeding off to a great start. I am certified through
The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice, Inc. (ALPP)
Please feel free to contact me if you need breastfeeding support.
I am also Certified through the American Heart Association (AMA) in Infant, Child and Adult CPR, and most recently (January 2015), I took an amazing Rebozo training class and learned an abundance of additional relaxation and support techniques to use in connection with my birth doula clients.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider: Completed June 2018
I received my Bachelors Degree in Sociology from The College of New Rochelle in May of 2014, and I received my Masters of Science in Midwifery degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY in May of 2018!
[My clinical study was completed with the Midwives at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY.]
I have acquired an abundance of information through self-study and hands-on experience through the clients that I have served as a childbirth educator, birth and postpartum doula, CLC and presently as a Birth Assistant with JJB Midwifery. I feel the wisdom that is passed on via experience and word of mouth is extremely sacred and vital.
My passion for supreme care and my trust in Universal Alignment has led me to connect with some amazing energies, people and places. I don't take this for granted, I honor the path and answer the calling. Traditional Midwifery and Holistic Healing are the cornerstones of my approach to wellness and life.
In 2022 I completed a post-graduate degree in International Midwifery and Maternal & Infant Health, with Mercy in Action, as I plan to travel abroad to countries in Northern Africa to continue to offer stellar care that respects the customs, traditions and beliefs of the families that I have the honor to serve. In 2022 I also chose to extend my learning and study with Jennie Joseph through her Commonsense Childbirth Midwifery School. We incorporate aspects of the JJ Way into our care at Birth from The Earth, and we are a Perinatal Safe Spot!
I am continuously grateful to share my services with my community!

Originating in Kansas City, Missouri, Chocolate Milk Cafe now has facilitators and meeting in multiple states, including its newest Chapter in New York and New Jersey, based on the need to increase breastfeeding outcomes for women of color.
The Goals of Chocolate Milk Cafe:
- Provide breastfeeding support to address barriers to breastfeeding experienced specifically by African-American Women/Women of Color
- Support the 10 Steps of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative
- Provide a safe space within communities to assist with breastfeeding, and improve breastfeeding outcomes
- Allow access to a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) and Chocolate Milk Cafe Facilitator at every meeting
- Improve current disparities in maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rates, by providing breastfeeding education and support during the prenatal and postpartum periods
Herbs & Childbearing:
I am often asked the question; "What herbs can I take to increase fertility naturally?", and, as this is not my area of expertise, I often refer them to specialists and/or midwives I know. The more I thought about it (and the more often people ask me this question), I realized that this is information and knowledge I need to acquire. So, over the summer of 2010 I took two courses; Introduction to Herbs and Herbs for the Childbearing Year. I learned SO much from these classes that I am excited to share with you; from Natural Fertility and Family Planning, to natural alternatives to basic newborn baby care and procedures!
It is amazing how we can use what Mother Nature has provided to achieve a desired result.
